R. K. West sent these breathtaking pictures of live flamingos in their natural habitat. This is the kind of freedom we are trying to afford our plastic birds in our modest flamingo colony.



These flamingos live in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Africa. This is a saltwater lake in the crater. They feed on small creatures that live in the water. The lake is fed by a freshwater stream, so there is a section of fresh water at one edge of the lake, where the flamingos go when they want to bathe.
